Who we are
BookSmart by Joella (“BookSmart,” “we,” “us”) is a bookkeeping, payroll, and tax practice owned and operated by Joella Burr. This policy explains how we handle information collected through this website and in the course of providing services.
Information we collect
- Information you give us. When you submit a form, email, or call us, we collect your name, email address, phone number, business name, and whatever you choose to share about your situation.
- Information you provide as a client. To perform bookkeeping, payroll, and tax services, we receive financial records, bank and credit card transaction data, payroll information, tax identification numbers, and similar records. This information is confidential and is handled as described below.
- Information collected automatically. Our website may collect standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring site. This is used to understand site performance and is not used to identify you personally.
How we use information
We use information to respond to inquiries, provide and administer our services, comply with legal and regulatory obligations, communicate with you about your account, and improve our website. We do not sell your information. We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
How we share information
We share information only: with service providers who help us operate (such as accounting software, payroll processors, secure file-sharing tools, and email providers), and only as needed for them to perform their function; with tax authorities and government agencies as required to file returns and reports on your behalf or as required by law; and with anyone you specifically authorize in writing.
Tax return information
Federal law prohibits us from using or disclosing the information contained in your tax return for purposes other than preparing and filing that return without your prior written consent.
How we protect information
We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we hold, including access controls, encrypted transmission of sensitive documents, and secure storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How long we keep information
We retain client records for as long as needed to provide services and for the periods required by federal and state tax and employment law. Inquiry information from people who do not become clients is retained only as long as needed to respond.
Your choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us, subject to our legal record-retention obligations. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time; we may still send you communications necessary to service your account.
Children's privacy
This website is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Third-party links
Our site may link to third-party sites, including social media. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
